Anyone, who's ever used a computer no matter how long it is, has experienced the sensation of losing an important file through many reasons or injudicious use of the Delete key. Sometimes, though, what's lost can be found again.

1. Stop what you're doing

First you should know that When the operating system receives a command of deleting files, it only marks the space on your hard drive that the file occupies as free space. In other words, deleted files are still there, but your computer is ready to write new data on top of it - at which point the file recovery process becomes a lot more difficult. That is why you have to "Stop what you're doing", especially avoiding to disturb the data loss area. Special care must be paid for every time your computer writes new data into your hard drive; your chances of recovering the file go down.

2. Recover lost photos

Solution 1: Recover files from backup

If the files have been backed up to hard disk or other storage medium, it is recommended that the files be restored from that backup image.

Solution 2: Restore deleted files from the Recycle Bin or Trash

If you are running Windows 95, NT, 98, 2000, ME, XP, Vista, or later Operating System and the files have been recently deleted it is possible that the files may still be in the Trash or Recycle Bin. If present within this area it can be recovered.

Double-click on the Recycle Bin in Windows to see if the file is still there.

If you find the file, drag it to the desktop. To return the file to its original location in Windows, click on the file and select Restore from the drop-down menu.

Solution 3: Recover lost photos with data recovery software
